ArticulateCourse DescriptionThe Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments designed to assess proficiency of Pennsylvania high school students in various subjects. Students must demonstrate proficiency on the Keystones in order to graduate. The Biology Keystone Exam assesses students’ mastery of the Biology Assessment Anchors as defined by the Eligible Content in the Pennsylvania Standards. If a student does not demonstrate proficiency on the Biology Keystone Exam, they need to take the test again. In order to prepare them for the test, I proposed a computer based remediation course to cover the test material. This reusable learning object (RLO) was designed using the eLearning software Articulate and would be presented to students via the Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle. It is HTML5 SCORM conformant and would be marked by Moodle & placed in the Moodle Gradebook.

StoryBoard
The Storyboard for the Biology Keystone Remediation Course- Genetics Module is visual organizers for the purpose of pre-visualizing a web-based training before it goes into production. This storyboard was presented to the Biology subject matter expert (SME) before the Articulate RLO was created to ensure that information is correct and the sequence of information is logical. You can view the storyboard below.

Usability Study
In order to determine the effectiveness and user ease of this RLO, I constructed a Usability Study to be administered to a sample group before the course is finalized. Usability is the ease (or lack of ease) with which learners interact with online instructional materials (pages, forms, media, etc.) and people (the instructor, peers, help sources). Good usability for online learning materials means the site, content, and media are easy to find, use, and navigate. Good usability for people means the interaction tools (such as email and discussion forums) are easy to use and facilitate getting input or help as needed. The Usability Study is below as well as an example of a response from the sample group. All of the suggestions in the example were acted upon & corrected in the final RLO.
